Open research/rehearsal with JACK Quartet and DXArts

Please join us for an open rehearsal and reception with (University of Washington School of Music and DXARTS - Center for Digital Art and Experimental Media) faculty Richard Karpen and Juan Pampin, along with the JACK Quartet as they share their #creativeresearch, made possible through the The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation's #CreativeFellowshipInitiative at Meany Center for the Performing Arts.

In this open rehearsal, the creators will discuss how they generate ideas, provide insights into their methods and techniques, and share some of the new sounds they are creating in preparation for a new work that will premiere in 2018.

This is the third residency in which UW faculty members Karpen and Pampin have been collaborating with the JACK to explore using data from EEG machines connected to the musicians' brains to create sounds. Together, they have experimented with different thought activities and with the musical applications for the data.

Wed. April 26th from 4:30-5:30pm in the Meany Studio Theatre, followed by a reception with the artists. Free and open to the public.

Your rsvp is requested—if you plan to attend, please email: mcteach@uw.edu with the subject: “JACK at Meany”
